Takeaways From the
Milken Global Conference:
Building Meaningful Lives
Kendra: Hello and welcome to this episode of the Founder’s Table. It’s Kendra and Jerry here and we are in Los Angeles currently and we just got through with our first two days of being at this business conference that we go to every year called the Milken Global Conference. The theme this year is building meaningful lives. The Milken Institute is a not-for-profit nonpartisan enterprise and they’re working to increase global prosperity by advancing collaborative solutions that widen access to capital, that create jobs, and improve health. They bring together thought leaders from across many industries and sectors including government and private business as well as health and education.Read More
Article published in DSN Magazine | What do you do when you’re ready to find the next leader and CEO of the global, multimillion-dollar company you’ve created and the solution seems elusive? That was NeoLife International Founder and Chairman of the Board Jerry Brassfield’s dilemma seven years ago when he turned 70. First he tried two individuals already connected to the company. Next, he hired a professional business manager with impeccable credentials. No dice. He even thought his son would be the ideal candidate, but he was already successful and wasn’t interested.
Then he asked his daughter Kendra to accompany him on a trip around the world to get to know the company, and a surprising thing happened—although neither of them ever thought she would be interested in the job, Kendra turned out to be the perfect choice to take over from her father.Read More
A transcription of Episode 2 of the Founder’s Table
with Jerry & Kendra Brassfield
Kendra: Thank you Jerry for joining us for another episode of The Founder’s Table. On the last episode we talked about your story and you shared with us some really great insight into your past, how you got started in the business, and now I’m excited to move from past to present.
So we’ll be covering a lot of the most relevant and important subjects that face entrepreneurs today. Let’s get started with talking about the big picture. We know that if we have big goals we have to know how to get there and have to be motivated to get there. You’ve always reinforced the power of having a strong but clear and concise why – “why are you in this business in the first place?” Can you please speak to that?Read More
For the last few years I’ve been working to put the team in place that will lead us into the next 60+ years of success. A key component to the completion of this plan has been to find the right person to succeed me as CEO. I’ve learned over the years that this person is critical to the long-term success of the organization. He/she would need to have a unique combination of intelligence, discernment, passion, conviction, drive, gut instinct, as well as a certain level of fearlessness to rise to the occasion. My daughter Kendra has proven to be the right leader for this position.Read More

This morning I went to the gym, as I do most mornings before work, expecting to enter the chaos that typically follows the celebration of each New Year and the resolutions we so often feel inspired to make.
To my surprise the gym was a ghost town, even deserted by the regular crowd usually spotted at this time of morning.
So why is this happening? The answer is simple: people aren’t sticking to their resolutions! But that’s only to be expected when we arbitrarily throw up statements like “I’m going to lose weight” or “I’m going to eat healthier” and then don’t follow through with how we are going to get there. By not taking the proper steps for success we are setting ourselves up for failure.
So what does it take to succeed with our New Year’s resolutions?Read More
A very important lesson I have learned is that you can’t exercise your way out of poor nutrition.
People often ask me why they aren’t reaching their fitness and weight loss goals even when sticking to a good workout routine. Before answering, I usually recommend he/she start keeping a journal of what they are eating and drinking along with exercise and show me in a week.
Not surprisingly, this journal tends to reveal a pattern of justifying unhealthy eating habits with a little exercise and not enough nutrition. In this case I can follow up with the answer of ‘you can’t exercise your way out of poor nutrition!’ and then go on to point out what that person needs to cut out and what they should add to their diet. It doesn’t matter how hard you push yourself in the gym if you are eating poorly at home.

“Discipline determines destiny.” Three words that carry a lot of weight and truth in all aspects of a person’s life, including fitness.
It is important to develop discipline around your fitness routine especially when it comes to consistency. Our muscles go through cycles of break down and repair which make it important to be physically active on a regular basis. With that said, it’s also important to HAVE FUN!!
